The iolite gemstone was lored to be a “Viking Compass Stone”. Legend has it that thin slices of iolite was used to reduce glare as ancient Viking navigators locate the sun. This allowed the Nordic mariners to pinpoint their own location on the seas. It was also said that the pleochroic stone unlocks creativity. Annie was deeply inspired and wanted the gem to be the token of her new studio as symbolic of her creative direction. We went through several iterations, with both digital and analog media.
